The scent of jasmine is intoxicating, sensual, capable of evoking images of summer nights, lush gardens, and magical atmospheres. Originally from India, China, and Persia, this flower has always been admired for its beauty and intense aroma, becoming a symbol of love, purity, and sensuality in various cultures. But jasmine is not just an ornamental flower: its beneficial properties have been known since ancient times and today it is widely used both in aromatherapy and perfumery, and even in skin care.

From aromatherapy to the world of fragrances, jasmine continues to enchant with its unique scent. It is one of the most prized raw materials in perfumery. Its floral, intense, and sensual fragrance makes it a fundamental ingredient in many compositions. Despite the abundance of this flower, its very low yield makes it a precious raw material: 10,000 flowers, weighing just over a kilogram, are needed to extract only a few grams of essential oil.

Remember that the two main varieties of jasmine used in both aromatherapy and perfumery are Jasmine sambac (Jasminum sambac) and Jasmine grandiflorum (Jasminum grandiflorum). The name jasmine comes from the Persian “Yasmin”, which later, through Arabic and ancient French, also reached the Italian language.

To obtain jasmine essence, different extraction techniques are used:

• Solvent extraction: a modern method that uses volatile solvents to extract the essence from the flowers. It is interesting to note that to obtain just one kilo of jasmine absolute, about 8 million flowers are needed, picked by hand before dawn.
• Enfleurage: a traditional method that involves the absorption of the scent of the flowers by animal fats.

Jasmine is a flower with a thousand facets, capable of giving well-being to body and mind. In aromatherapy, its essential oil is a precious ally to heal stress, anxiety, and depression, while in perfumery its intoxicating fragrance seduces and fascinates. Its versatility also extends to skin care, where its regenerating and anti-aging properties contribute to keeping the skin young and luminous.

But jasmine is much more than a simple ingredient: it is a symbol of love, purity, and sensuality, deeply rooted in different cultures. Legend has it that jasmine flowers are actually stars fallen from the sky, transformed into flowers. There is a strong connection between this flower and the night, during which its scent intensifies, evoking mystery, dreams, and the feminine universe.
